Latest News: GPRS Now Offers the Latest in GPS Technology

GPR and GPS MappingGPRS is excited to provide global positioning system (GPS) technology for use on your outdoor projects, such as environmental surveys and the detection of underground utility layouts.  In conjunction with our GPR and electromagnetic induction technologies, we use a hand-held GPS device to create a comprehensive map of the underground area of your job site that then can be overlaid onto CAD documents and / or Google Earth maps.  Utilizing GPS technology along with our GPR and EMI services will give you a permanent record of the physical reference points of your project area’s underground environmental / utility layout.  For more information on this resource, please contact your local GPRS representative today!

Ground Penetrating Radar in Pennsylvania

Ground Penetrating Radar technology is ground radar that acts as a type of ground sonar and provides critical information regarding anything that could be located below the surface. It is sometimes called ground sonar, concrete scanning, surface penetrating radar or ground radar. This technology is used throughout Pennsylvania as-well-as around the country for a variety of underground scanning purposes including but not limited to:

Locating underground utilities
  • Conducting concrete x-rays
  • Post-tension location
  • Locating foundations
  • Concrete scanning

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems works in a fast and reliable manner. It is also very safe, as it uses no radiation. We use this technology throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Cities such as Altoona, Reading and Erie in Pennsylvania.

*All of our ground penetrating radar equipment is registered and meets all FCC, Pennsylvania regulations

Shawmut Design and Construction

GPR Post-Tensioned Cable Locating

In May of 2008, Shawmut Design and Construction contacted GPRS, Inc. about a project in West Hartford, Connecticut where a new PF Chang’s restaurant was being built inside an existing mall. Due to the new restaurant having several stores beneath it in the mall, Shawmut Design and Construction knew they could not strike any of the tension cables in the hollow core floor. Shawmut had approximately 72 holes to be core drilled for the new drains and plumbing in thenew PF Chang’s.

Regional Director, Jamey Harmon arrived at the site and was able to mark out the areas where each hole was to be drilled laying out the tension cables and the rebar located in the hollow core flooring prior to any drilling. Several holes had to be moved due to the location of tension cables in the floor.  On the second day of the job we were able to locate a large steel reinforcing beam running across the bottom of the slab where walls along with six holes were to be placed. Locating the beams and the cables in the floor allowed Shawmut Design to get these hole locations changes back to the engineers in a timely manner. By using ground penetrating radar prior to core drilling this allowed Shawmut to continue with their construction without affecting the structural integrity of the building.
